Round table “HR shortage in regions and solution of the problem”
16th April, 2008

The meeting was organized by magazine Delovoy (Kyiv) with informational support of the EBA The participants discussed the overflow of managers and a lack of workmen. There are more and more graduated specialists but qualified workers are in demand. It becomes clear that companies most of all lack technicians and engineers. They are ready to pay their workers high salaries, but they have to hire specialists of older age or to hire younger and less experienced ones and train them.

Representatives of large national companies shared their experience in solving HR problems. Speakers noticed that nowadays education level of graduated specialists is too low, and their ambitions as to the salary and work conditions are too high. The participants discussed educational and training programmes for professional development, methods to retain workers, methods to form up a team of like-minded people.

General Membership Meeting: Ukraine in the world market after joining WTO. Donetsk region
24th April, 2008

The meeting was held at the hotel Donbas Palace with support of company Gulfstream. Mr Jury Makogon, Professor, Director of the Donetsk Branch of the National Institute of Strategy Research, spoke of positive consequences and possible risks for Ukraine after joining WTO. They may appear at three levels, namely: consumers’, producers’, and the macroeconomic level. He paid attention to steel and chemical industries which are drivers of economic development in Donetsk region. The positive consequences are: more favorable conditions for investment, decrease in number of antidumping investigations, implementation of high standards of environmental protection, opportunity for Ukraine to become a part of the European production chain, removal of trade restrictions. After joining WTO the Ukrainian industry would face: cruel necessity to spend additional finances for renewing equipment to meet the EU standards; dramatic increase of production costs because of environmental protection expenditures; and – as a result – bankruptcy of noncompetitive producers.

“Strengthening of competitiveness of Ukrainian goods and services, improving quality of processing and manufacturing, high-tech development, increased production of national goods and services could help overcome negative consequences of Ukraine’s entry to the WTO and to the European structures”, – said Mr Makohon.
