EBRD Transition Report 2009
| |
11 November 2009 European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) presented Transition Report 2009. Transition Report 2009 was presented to the audience among which were many EBA members.
Transition Report is the EBRD’s annual update on reform progress and economic developments across 29 countries from central Europe to central Asia, that focuses on the challenges posed by the crisis: both for the countries directly, and for the economic strategies that they have followed since the collapses of communism.
Twenty years after the fall of the Iron Curtain the global financial and economic crisis has put the transition region to an unprecedented test. Many countries are suffering severe recessions. But systemic crises have been avoided and previous reforms have not been reversed.
The report addresses the question how the crisis has unfolded in the region and how recent developments are challenging our understanding of the transition process. |
|
Trade and financial integration, for a long time the major drivers of growth and development, have become sources of vulnerability.
However, close integration has also meant that few investments in the region have been reversed, helping prevent the worst.
The year 2010 should see a return to modest growth in most of the EBRD region. Medium-term growth prospects remain dependent on institutional reforms, integration, improved regulation, increased competitiveness and economic diversification. The report analyses the remaining “transition gaps” in these and other areas in detail, drawing on a wealth previously unpublished information.
Those who wish to receive the presentation “EBRD Transition Report 2009: Transition in Crisis?” please send your inquiries to: events@eba.com.ua. |
